This Week's Feline

Siamese Kitty     There are many Siamese cats of all ages looking for forever homes at the Toronto Branch of the SPCA. Please help my fellow Meezers who need a place to purr up a storm and to recieve kibbles and cuddles.

If you are not from Canada and really want to share your life with a meezer, check out Siamese Rescue who send meezers throughout the world from offices from Virginia to Texas and California.

Rescue of the Week

An Arizona cat has a whale of a tail to meow about after being rescued but he's not talking - in any human language anyway - and cat lovers can only guess what happened to him. Fortunately, surgery has saved him and he will be looking for a forever home very soon.

There are many similar rescue stories and some of them can be read at the following web sites:

Cat of the Week

Jerry is a meezer who is described by his rescuers as "a mystery wrapped up in an enigma." Hmmm... perhaps they should have named this fiesty feline Winston. His story is available. He looks a la Garfield, "big boned" so perhaps his family is missing him. He is declawed and neutered so someone loves him.

Felines in the News

Mama Cat and Kittens Saved by Miami Firefighters

KITTEN AID : Miami-Dade firefighter Orestes Gonzalez administers oxygen to one of the eight felines rescued from a town house fire in Sweetwater Tuesday.

Eight cats rescued from Burning Home

And in other feline news, a woman who murdered her cat Fluffy by boiling her alive in the washing machine was sentenced to six weeks in jail. Six years might have made more sense for such a barbaric act! Fluffy's kittens lost their mama in a manner so cruek it just breaks my heart.

It was a happier tail in Quincy, Massachusetts where local volunteers pitched in to help keep a shelter alive.

October 16 is National Feral Cat Day and many events were held in honor of this worthy and laudable cause. This reminded me of a very touching story about a former pet but now homeless kitty eeking out a paltry existence in the wild was written several years ago by an animal actvist.

The temporary shelter which is supported by donations to the foundation, is set up at a Lake Castle School where they care for animals rescued in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
